I have an Apple iBook G4 and I want to know how to get wirelss internet.?
I would love to have a wireless connection anywhere I go, as I’m a writer and would love to have the opportunity to work outdoors or in other locations that are convenient but lack wireless signals. What options do I have with my particular lap top? I have Airport, and I can pick up wireless signals in surrounding areas, but I can’t always get a good connection. I want to install or purchase my own wi fi access but I’m having trouble finding the info online. What, if any, equipment do I need to buy? Who offers good service and in what price range? Any useful suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.
If you have a local Apple store then you can ask the “Genius Bar” technicians regarding the best possible way to get hooked up to wireless. If not, then basically, you need the Airport Extreme Base Station, which will be hooked up to your own internet connection. Through the Base Station, the Airport card in your laptop will pick up the signal and you are ready to go. For prices & options, go to www.apple.com, click on the “Store” tab and look at the Airport & Wireless options located on the left-hand side menu.
For away from home, your Airport card will automatically detect the strongest wifi signal and depending on the vendor will require pay-as-you-surf or could be free.
Another EXCELLENT source of information is the Apple website. Click on the “Support” tab and locate Airport & Wireless discussions, forums, and advice.
