My iBook G4 is starting with a command prompt on the screen …?
I have an iBook G4 that does not work. If I turn the laptop, It begins with what looks normal, with the Apple icon. But it is black and there are those white letters, it looks like a command prompt, and it reads: / Etc / master.passwd: No such file or directory-sh-2.05b # There is this list of commands when I pressed ESC and I tried some, the promising, but no luck saw. I looked through Yahoo Answers to find a solution without asking, but found none. Now I am for asking help before I take it to the Apple Store, the system is my last note. Please help me and thank you in: advance. This laptop is used and once belonged to the former owners, so easy for you know the "W" on the keyboard does not work and I do not have the disk that came with the Mac.
You could use a usb keyboard for quick Solution, but you have no business buying a Mac without the recovery discs that came with it. The file that is missing is something that is not, unless the person should have been deleted who did it wanted to make sure that no one could recover what was on the drive. With a recovery CD you could reset the password or a new admin account or restore the iBook to the original state and from there to go out. Without knowing what you can not even tell iBook G4 I what operating system it will run. You can probably run Tiger, but it depends on the size of memory and CPU speed. You must use the To boot disc or a retail version of Panther or Tiger.
