Mac Book? Is it good?
Is the mac sounds good good. I will only need it for web browsing. Condition: Used Processor Type: PowerPC G4 product family: iBook Processor Speed (per Core): 1.33 GHz Screen Size: 12 inch Processor Configuration: Single Core Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5, Leopard Memory (RAM): 512 MB Drive: CD-RW/DVD Combo Hard Drive Capacity: 30 GB to 30 GB I'n on what you think?
I would stay away from this if its like $ 25-50. The Power PC G4 processor is very old. This is an IBM-based processor. Apple has completely abandoned them. You are now using Intel-based. The Intel-based because are much faster, also uses the first generation of those Apple (now 3 + years old). You will not be able to install, Snow Leopard (the new operating system, coming this fall) on this computer. Snow Leopard requires an Intel-based processor. The computer has a DVD combo drive so you can not burn DVDs. In today's Day and age you need to be able to burn DVDs. The files are large, you need more storage solutions. A CD burner will not cut more. And 30GB is tiny. Leopard ate probably 25% -30% of the room. This does not leave you much room to put to many other files or programs on it. You could be an external USB drive, to store your music, photos and movies though. Also, hard drives fail, that's a fact. It is not a question of whether it is a matter of time. Such an old, heavily used / Worn, 30GB hard drive is not something I would be interested in paying for a lot is. And for this computer, search for a replacement drive might be the Indeed be difficult, because its probably an old PATA drive (not really all that well stocked more). And if you do find one, it will probably not too cheap. Even taking into account what you have for this thing that I still do not think that I highly recommend it. But if you are really set out for Web browsing, yah it would work technically. But again, you're used to much and wear on parts, so do not pay much for it. I do not think its another 100 dollars worth more.
